“FOGGY MORNING BEARS”
A mother with her cub enter into a summer meadow as the mist still lingers.
“CORN BOYS”
Winter skies have forced the Canada geese to take flight. A ringneck pheasant is crouched in the corn. The gobblers are busily feeding along the corn field’s cut edge. Yes, this late autumn scene brings great nostaglic feelings to a nature lover.
“WOOD DUCKS”
This is one of my earlier duck paintings. The original was used as a Ducks Unlimited banquet print. The image was used as a cover for a western Pennsylvania outdoor newspaper. I still have limited-edition prints available. $40.00
“SPRINGTIME MAJESTY”
“SPRINGTIME MAJESTY” is another painting made into a limited-edition series. “AUTUMN GOBBLERS”
The old gobblers were feeding around the base of a beech tree when they noticed movement from above. A group of turkey vultures are preparing for their annual southern migration. The“AUTUMN GOBBLERS” are making sure of their safety before finishing their feeding.
“JAKE-BASSETT HOUND”
Bassett hounds are an interesting breed. Long ears, short legs and a deep, mellow bark. I have always enjoyed watching them run and play.

Autumn Grouse
“Autumn Grouse” was a painting I entered in the Colorado Upland Bird Contest requiring a Ruffed Grouse be painted. I purposely omitted much detail in the background. I had hoped judges would like this attempt. The painting failed to win.
Lifting Fog
The painting, “Lifting Fog” is a painting of an actual area and an actual experience. I hunt this area often for those bronzed-back gobblers in the spring. I set there and was enthralled as the fog lifted off the field from the rising sun. I sketched the site and made some photos. This painting is the result.
Brown Trout #2
“Brown Trout #2″ was entered earlier this year in the Delaware Trout Stamp. I failed to place with the painting, although I do like this one. Last year, I entered a brook trout and received an honorable mention.
Hints Of Light
In 2009, I was at the Cook Forest for a French & Indian War reenactment. On Sunday morning, I hiked the Longfellow Trial in my F&I dudes. I became mesmerized with the early morning sun filtering through the high canopy. I knew the painting, “Hints Of Light” was to be made from this experience. I almost tramped on a fawn that june morning. (I did receive some stares from a couple of other hikers…they must have wondered what I was wearing?)
The Escape Of Massey Harbison
Imagine living in the year 1792 in Western Pennsylvania. Native warriors launch a surprise raid upon a humble log cabin killing and capturing. A young mother, Massey Harbison, was captured and miles later managed an escape with one surviving baby. Her miraculous travels and eventual return is a story that would make a great documentary. “The Escape of Massey Harbison” is a painting depicting one event of her escape. Her baby whimpered and a warrior heard something and waited. She was discovered along the banks of the Allegheny River , naked, near death with her body covered with cuts and briars.

At Rest-Wood Duck
The Wood Duck drake is one of most beautiful ducks found in my area. The painting; “At Rest-Wood Duck” shows the male woodie in all his splendor resting on a moss-covered log. This art was entered in the Delaware waterfowl Stamp contest this past spring. The painting failed to spur on any interest. Hope you enjoy the painting.
Mealtime-Rainbow Trout
Nothing more tasty than a mayfly to a trout! (I think!) This painting entitled” Mealtime-Rainbow trout” depicts a rainbow trout rapidly emerging from the shadows to dine on a mayfly. This painting was entered in the Delaware Trout Stamp Contest taking 4th place as an honorable mention.
Mid-Morning Nap
Napping in the woods is something I often do as the spring gobbler season wears me down as well as my allergies. “Mid-Morning Nap” depicts a hunter sleeping away in the spring sunshine. He has performed hen calls for gobblers and eventually the big-boy strutted across the field to look for the hen he had heard earlier that morning. Unfortunately for the hunter HE IS ASLEEP!
Snowy Surprise
A wise deer hunter NEVER straps his rifle over his/her shoulder or places the firearm against a tree while watching for the quarry. A human can not remove the rifle fast enough. A deer is fast! This art, “Snowy Surprise” shows such a scene as the nice buck sneaks in from behind and sees the hunter. The deer snorts loudly as he is out of sight in seconds.
Springtime Bear
Always a treat to see a black bear in the wild. The black can be amazingly difficult to see in the forest shadows. But, they are a beautiful mammal to behold! “Springtime Bear” shows a bruin coming from behind blooming rhododendrons.

Winter Elk
“Winter Elk” is a painting showing a majestic-sized antlered elk traveling across a spruce forest. The spruce trees are snow-laden as a golden sunrise is captured. Steam evades his nostrils on this cold morning.
The Shot
This painting was an experimental one. I decided to try painting a Union Civil War soldier in preparation to the Gettysburg battle painting I am currently working on as of date. “The Shot” allows the viewer to see the instant the shot was made.
Great-Horned Owl
The “Great-Horned Owl” has mystified me in my youth. I remember as a boy of about 5-6 years old, my father pointing out the hooting of this owl specie. A long time occurred before I actually witnessed one in the wild.
Merganser Family
While fishing along the Allegheny River I had the priviledge to watch a mother merganser and her young numerous times as they swam back and forth. I just had to paint them. The ”Merganser Family” painting was entered in the Pennsylvania Waterfowl Contest a few years ago.
